Gut a catalytic?

My cat is burnt out, reaks of all hell any time I go past 3k and don't have the money for a new DP so I wanna know if theres anyone on here that could help me remove or gut it. I remember with my first car, my dad had it since I was a kid and he gutted the cats on it (when it was his) and put the shell back in so he didnt have to buy anything to put in their place. I asked him and he said he doesnt want to mess with it, and gettin a little tired to do that kinda work these days, I was wondering if anyone on here would know how to do this since Im not the best with fab'ing and whatnot.

Just cut it off and weld in a piece of pipe in its place. Easy solution.

**** PM SHIBITO FOR LOCATION ****. There's a younger guy that does most of the exhaust cutting/swapping there and he doesn't care about cutting anything out. He did a great job with the duals on my 2.4L, and cut the resonator out of my Agency Power on my T/C. Price will probably depend on how hard it is to get to your cat(s) and if he has to un-bolt the dp or not. You can always stop in and they'll give you a free quote.

Shibito- keep that to PM. I'd hate to see the guy stop doing the work, or get in trouble for it because it's posted all over the internet.
With that said, the same guy removed my cat off of my stock DP and did a great job

If it is falling apart inside gutting the pipe wont be hard, s*** even if the catalyst was in 1 peice its not hard gut. Performance wise I wouldn't like having an expansion that close to the manifold, but to each their own.

The size doesnt bother me, I hope to be doing a full header and back exhaust possible next summer, just rite now this cat NEEDs to go and hopefully I can just replace my stock muffler with the one I want and just do some ghetto-riggin' for now. Or if anyone has an axle-back they wanna ditch cheap I might go for that.
