AutoX/Track car setup. FWD VS. RWD

As the title states, in your opinion what do you think has the "upper hand" at an AutoX or Track event?
Most prefer the RWD due to understeer. But then again you'll see Cavi's with built motors, or VWs with plenty of money spent just going to town on big V8 race cars.
Personally, I think RWD will always have a more agressive line. But I've seen properly setup FWD cars destroy the unlikely.

Equal, Since driver is 80% in auto-x. I can't say personally, because I have never raced a rwd. Rwd seems to be just easier to drive fast imo.

i've never raced rwd either, but i would have to say it seems like you would be able to go faster because you can use the throttle to help you around corners. i agree that it's 80% driver. i've wasted lots of mustangs in the cavy

For autocross, Yeah prolly Front drive, but for street/strip/road course, Rear wheel. honestly Ill take AWD and do everything and have great year-round driveability... but I cant afford an Evo.

I mean it's just two totally different driving lines. Like my first post said, there was a Orange Cavi with a built to s*** 2.2 and a race prepped mk1 GTI at Waterford a few years back, and they just beat up the prepped Mustangs, other V8s, even an older Panoz.
I guess they would equal out as soon as you find that magic line or setup. I'd probably enjoy my car a little more if it'd swing it's a** out in the corners. It just seems like there is alot more work to be put into a FWD car just to match what a RWD can accomplish.

my cavy likes to swing its a** out in the corners. that's what a nice beefy sway bar will do for you!

For sure. I'm unsure of the future of the Balt but I always have been back and forth about it. I've got a possible sale on a 89 RX7 with a blown apex seal for dirt cheap so who knows whats gonna happen. Just trying to generate some opinions as to make a more edumacated decision. The Balt needs struts and I was going to upgrade to the yellows, but moreso than likely the SS struts will be going in due to backorder/cost.

Get a car you really enjoy driving and go from there. Both drivetrains have their advantages and disadvantages. FWD can put a little more throttle in around the corners without throwing the a** out while rwd can put a lot more power down in a straight line. It comes down mostly to driver but suspension also plays more of a role then fwd/rwd.
